Grams O’ Smack

In a temporary excess of bitter pessimism I see that the internet is nothing more than the cancer of meaningless consumption metastasized to the realm of ideas.  It has conquered food, drink, the visual realm.  Television is, of course, the apotheosis of empty consumption, but the internet arose to ensure the annihilation of all the smarty-pants types who did things like getting rid of their televisions and smarmily informing anyone who would stand still for it that they never looked back.  The curse of hubris.

And how it facilitates those two fundamental human behaviors, lying and fucking off.  I suffer a vertiginous moment, pondering what this nation might look like if we all stopped lying and fucking off for a while.  The contemplation is so depressing that I have to stop after a few minutes.
